First Brew Bottled - Milestone IPA

Just finished bottling my first homebrew in about 20 years since an interesting home brew I made back in university using one of those Boots kits ( the older members of the audience probably remember the big white FB)

Just a couple of silly questions. After I bottled and went to clean out the FV there was a shed load of trub left in the bottom, probably about an inch of so, which made me wonder whether I'd actually mixed the kit properly.

I did check the OG which was 1040 according to the instructions.

Secondly the Milestone IPA is quite cloudy, I didn't get a chance to taste as I have a bad head cold at the moment, although I can tell you it smelt to me like fresh bread and toffee, quite strong but nothing 'off' to speak of.

Am I just panicking for no reason?

This is a good thing, so don't worry about it, leave your bottles in the warm for a week or two then put in the cool for as long as you can, the cloudiness in your beer will settle in due course :thumb: and yes you can test an odd one while you're waiting, but the longer it's left the better :

So ventured to taste my first brew yesterday and I've got to be honest it was a bit of a let down.

Just as a reminder the kit had 2 weeks in the FV, bottled/easy kegged and kept warm for just over 2 weeks, then into my beer fridge at 12 degrees for 2 weeks.

Pros: nicely clear
Cons: very dark for an IPA, strong 'home brew' smell (reminds me of my first home brew kit over 20 years ago), little discernable taste, fizzy (prob because I put in too much carbonation drops!)

So..... so I'm not put off, I have a Woodwordes Wherry kit in the wings once my Star San arrives, as well as Better Brew IPA/Yorkshire Bitter and the Coopers Bitter that came with the kit, and I'm not naive to think I will become a Master Brewer after 1 kit attempt!!!
