Started a first brew of coopers Australian lager I followed everything in instructions to a T but as I went to take first reading with hydrometer I realised it was broken in two is my brew ruined before I even got started or will it be OK? The brew was made last night with temperature settled at 24 and I'm getting a hydrometer today.

You will be fine mate, the hydrometer is simply to check gravity readings. My father has been brewing coopers kits around 30 years and he doesn't ever use a hydrometer. Leave it in the fermenter for 15 days and then bottle it and you will be fine.

I do recommend getting a hydrometer though as once you get into brewing a bit more you can't live with out it.

I'm assuming you didn't put the hydrometer in the brew and it broke? If not you will be fine. Just let it ferment out as normal and in a week or so check it then. No point checking it once fermentation has started as the value will have reduced so not an accurate OG. Let it finish fermenting and check it then.

The hydrometer was broke in the box I only noticed as I was about to clean it it was nowhere near my brew so I'm lucky that way. Also the coopers Australian says leave to ferment for 4-6 days then bottle what do you think guys and also any recommendations on any other lagers to try after this first ones fermented I want to get another one up and running :-)
