Hi,

I currently ferment in a cheap plastic bucket like most people. I then transfer into another cheap plastic bucket, then into my cornie.

I'm curious about my options for filtering. I have an auto-syphon, which has a plastic cap on the bottom to prevent pulling in the sediment, but I'd love something I could put either in-line on the syphon hose, or similar.

Does anybody know of anything like this that's any good, or any other good cheap way of filtering?

I'm not looking to have my ale look like commercial lager, but it would be nice if I could improve clarity a bit.

If you leave the beer in each FV a little longer, that will help in itself. The worst yeast for cloudiness is the one that comes with Wherry and other Muntons kits - it really is a nuisance the way this behaves.

If you are serious about eliminating the problem, one of the US Safeale yeasts - either 04 or 05, is good on clarity and if you get some from an internet supplier, like the Malt Miller, the yeast can be re-used by washing or skimming for a number of brews.

I like you put my beer in a secondary fermentation bucket just to leave behind all the stuff at the bottom. After that I put it outside, cover it up with a black bag and leave it for a day or two, that cleared it up amazingly. Temperatures were in the 6-9 Celsius range. I got quite a clear beer as a consequence as you can see below.
