so I just kicked off a CC white zinfandel kit thinking I'd everything bought I need and in the instructions they recommend to filter it!

What's everyone do? I had hoped to be done buying stuff and start recouping on my investment.

Please respond to my poll

I have never filtered a wine (never been instructed to) and have made quite a few kits i would not buy a filter kit i may never need or use again just because a certain kit suggests you filter it.

if it involves me not spending money then it's assigned a very favorable weighting factor!

on another note.. i put up a wow rose last week, started at 1.08 and it's at 1 now. It is however still producing c02.. a few small bubbles through the airlock every 10 seconds.. is it ok to stop it before it stops "bubbling" as my wife prefers white zinfandel and that is certainly not a dry wine... or is it best to leave until it's dead clam and then top up the DJ with a bit of Apple juice to add a little sweetness back in.

I am not keen on dry wine and my method is to let it go until it only bubbles once every couple of minutes finish it as you do with all WOW then top up with 1/4 of a litre of apple juice and water to the neck, we did try 1/2 a litre but it was a little too sweet.

I'd be inclined to try it at .996 as 1.0 will still be sweet, it won't matter though if you let it get to dry as it can be back sweetened. If you like a really bright, clear wine with zero residue in the bottle then filtering it will improve it no end, depends on you but if you think the time/cost is worth it.

it's for the missus and she bangs a load of ice in the glass and tops it up with lemonade  - purely a cost saving exercise.

also with regards to the bubbling.. isn't the gravity more accurate than waiting for all bubbles to go as bubbles could be just it in need of degassing?

update.. it's bottled and bl00dy lovely and I don't drink wine.. Going to scale up to a bucket full and keep in a 20l and 5l vinotainer.. already sick to death of washing and sterilising bottles.
