Filtering a wash

Now I know it may be a stupid question but......

Do you think it would be possible to use a fresh water fish tank filter rather than using a bucket and white pipe?

yes if you use the right carbon in the filter, but give it multiple pass's.

i am doing my first high brew but i have friend that dose them a lot and he use i caravan pump/filter to clear his wash. it get the job done in under 1hr with multiple pass's. he just replaces he filter crystals with activated carbon.

Just a quick Tip.


There is a difference between filtering wine/Beer, Mash etc and polishing it.

Use a large Brita filter to filter your strained mash.

Then, polish it using a vin clear filter system.

So glad I stumbled upon this post! Will deff have to try the Britta filter trick. Was going to use an external fish tank filter but this seems a lot less Hassel lol

I use a length of wastepipe filled with activated carbon. Filter three times and crystal clear and tastes great
