Since i've been in NZ i've had loads of Kiwi's tell me about this 'classic' kiwi film and that 'classic' kiwi film. Quite frankly kiwi films are beyond rubbish. Scarfies is supposed to be an iconic kiwi film. Don't even bother with it. Grange Hill is about the equivalent. Once were warriors is ok, till you come and live here. Then you realise that it's a reality thing. They may have been warriors once, they are not now. Since i have lived here there have been about 10-15 deaths of small children from Maori families. From hanging them on the washing line to throwing them against a wall, to simply beating them. I'm not running Maori's down-some of them are so cool and together, real 'bushmen' and our local elder, sonny, is a mine of information on everything that seems to have ever happened here in Tutukaka. Two of the people i most respect here are Maori's and close friends of mine. But it's like every race alive. There are good and there are bad.
So my kiwi mates have asked me to get them a good pom film to watch. They've seen all the recent stuff so i thought i'd get them a film that i love from years ago. After a bit of hunting about i've finally found the film that i want to show them. Scum.
I wonder how they'll see it? At least they'll get my 'potting shed' jokes now...
Can anyone recommend any others? Has anyone not seen Scum?
