I got a free larder fridge not long ago as some on here will have read, but delayed using it to allow the smell to dissipate before use, well in fact I covered the original smell with my own by cleaning, steralising, bleaching, steralising and it was still there so put some natural essential oils in to overpower the smell, then left it a few more weeks.

So, back to the point, I am doing what is planned to be my last kit before going to AG. I have a heat belt but hadnt wired it up so I could put the lead through the drain hole. After the kit had stopped fermenting at 1.012, from an OG of 1.044 so I was happy with that. I thought I would move it to the brew fridge to finish the 2 weeks in the FV before going in the PB where it will have 2 weeks carbonating and 2 weeks cold crashing.

After moving it into the fridge it has started fermenting again and the airlock is bubbling again. I always have a good seal on my FV and gravity had not changed for 2 days so sure it had stopped.

This got me thinking why that would happen. The only thing I can think is it had a heat belt around the bottom of the FV (right at the bottom) a jumper and blanket over it and heated by a heat belt on an inkbird. Now I have moved it, its basically the same but the fridge is the insulation now. COuld the cold at the bottom (and warmer edges near the heat belt) make that much difference? was it moving it around a bit?

If its the colder middle of the FV affecting it that much, what would the other way do, a heat tray where all the heat comes from underneath. Could that overheat it if too warm to bring the overall temperature to the right point?

I'll let you know what the FG is when it finishes fermenting again.

I would.agree with above. I usually dont bother going into a secondary but when I do there has been occasion when it has kickstarted fermentation again. It is probably the move has roused a bit off the bottom and they found a bit of sugar
