Do we need to ferment in the dark, either in a closed cupboard or covering the fermenting bin in a black bin liner etc.

Are there any benefits to fermenting in the dark.

You don't want UV to hit your beer. Yeast hate it.
I have a chill box so it's all dark.

Thanks for the advice everyone, black bin liner it is for the next brew.

Pitty they do not make black fermenting bins.

Then you won't be able to see that beautiful nectar from the gods.
It's not super sensitive. But you just don't want to leave out in the open with direct light. Some people just put them in the corner of a room or closet. But as you brew, you want to hone in your practices that eliminate possible problems. This is one of them.

I have a couple of throws (like a blanket) that I chuck over them in the utility room. Keeps them shielded from the light and manage the temp. 😜

Yes but don't you need to help the brew to grow with 2 weeks in the warm/sun ?

its what I do when I have days off :D

Skunked beer is a smell rather than a flavour and as a result while in the fermenter it's not a problem as the smell can escape. OK smells are flavours in a way as we can only smell things which will devolve in water, however some beers are supplied in clear bottles so some brewers have found a way around the problem. But allowing the beer to skunk in the fermenter I would think means there is less left to react to light when in the bottle.
