First thanks for the info on distance purchases as we have been looking in to it and dreading it a good deal. As to those who threaten legal action, well it is better to take the hit on the chin and learn than to scream lawsuit and get burned by being left out of the game.

As always support you local as that way you will always have a local (Edina is mine and great folks). As to those who like playing bully, well as is said in Southern Italy, " un po' di pezzo e un po' di corda" in english "a little bit of weight and a little bit of rope" and the problem is solved. Lots of water around Italy you know.

Well will keep watching this thread and will let you know how our orders turn out, so that it can help others.

Hop and Grape has to be my favourite. :thumb: Realy well priced, with the exception of the Pilsener Malt. :hmm:

And I Like that you can order specific amounts of grain (wish they did this for hops as well)

I've had good experiences with Brew and CraftBrewer :thumb:

I've only had one bad experience - I won't name the shop in question, but the person involved didn't seem to understand my point about packaging a glass bottle of CRS in no more than 1 layer of bubble wrap and a plastic courrier bag. The bottle of CRS had smashed in transit and when I opened said bag it leaked everywhere and made loads of nice patterns on my wooden kitchen work top
The stuff was everywhere......got my hands lovely and clean.
Fortunately we were just about to rip out the kitchen, so I could not be bothered to press the matter any further. The "Well, it's never happened before" comment when I rang them about it just infuriated me and made me feel like a liar.
I vowed never to use the shop again but was forced to on one further occasion as they are the only UK stockists of a particular item I needed.

just got the fasted delivery ever from an online retailer
ordered last night and was on door step when I got home miday
Colchester homebrew
never used them before and will be using more in the future as post was very reasonable too

I've had a fairly big order with them, and the delivery was fats, and the order was correct - very pleased.

For smaller orders that still qualify for free postage, I'm trying the ThriftyShopper.co.uk - will update on results - only placed the order yesterday :drink:

I use my LHBS in Kidsgrove, someone off eBay for my hops and I get my grain from Worcester Hop Shop. I have just ordered a few things from The Thrifty Shopper after 3 cocked up orders from a popular online website.

I bought most of my equipment from Joe at Leyland Homebrew. He has immense patience! The plastic 10 gallon boilers are great value.

I buy my grains from Barley Bottom, good yeast there too.

Was lucky enough to visit 'matchless' in Coalville, see the link up the top of the page, this is the sort of homebrewing shop I dream to have down here in Cornwall. Top folks, good advice and helpfull folks.

You cant fault Ian and Anne, they are two of the nicest people ive ever met. Even if the ply my girls with sweets everytime they see them.
If i order on line i tend to use Paul at BB, but recently ive started to use John at Worcester Hop Shop, great service and a quick turn around. Hopefully he will start to stock more soon.

I now have Maris Otter back in stock, and by popular demand I will have Vienna and Munich Malts in stock tomorrow

Well, very pleased with the service from thriftyshopper - beer kit and 15 glass beer bottles arrived 2 days after order processed, very well packaged, and postage was free.

I'll certainly use these guys again since I only need to make an order worth £25 to get free postage - much more practical than having to bump an order up to £40 to get it, or face £6 or more in postage charges :drink:

Maris otter on worcester hop shop for 25kg is £28.50 delivered, the thrifty shopper works out at £37.25 delivered, is this correct ?

Presumably only because the Worcester place has it on special offer, whereas thrifty shopper is charging full whack :wha:

But, the offer only stands for another 5 days....

As always, a quick google will tell you if somewhere is selling a particular item much cheaper than somewhere else :drink:

Yeah, Hop and Grape is grape. Err, I mean great! I dunno where you live, but if you call into the shop in person (which I always do from next door in Durham!), their website's bigger than their shop, so ask as they've got most of the good stuff out back! And phone them first if you want a sackful of speciality grains so they can grind it fresh for you. Not that I always forget and then feel guilty or anything... :nono:

Ballyhoo (one of the forum sponsors :) )

I ordered via Amazon on Thursday evening and it arrived this morning. I had a gift voucher that needed using

Fast response and well packaged, I now have a brewbin fermenter :thumb:

have to say I use the Hop and Grape for all my stuff and never had a complaint to make! I'm lucky enough that they're my local shop so can't comment on mail order but as for stock they always have exactly what I want, the prices are good and the service is excellent. John and Patsy are very knowledgeable and helpful and always happy to chat. And no, I'm not on a commission to say this!!

Wassail!
Phil
