15 barrels in total sadly not all mine :( They belong to a Turk m8 of mine who has nowhere to ferment them. Pure pressed white grape juice.

The yellow ones are mine 55 ltr, but he did tell me he has enough for another 4 barrels. :thumb:

I was wondering where you got al that white grape juice and then I saw that it was you and you are in Turkey

Hi screamlead. nice stash.

are those barrels any good (particularly the blue ones).
I can readily get hold of these where i work (although they are used to store drugs. don't worry nothing illegal, i work at a pharmaceutical packaging company) but have not been sure about using them as a lot of people are very keen on using food grade containers.

if they are good and don't taint the wine or beer then i'll have to grab a few. i suppose if they contain a product for human consumption then in theory they would be food grade.

I use blue chutney barrels for my boiler and MT, they're food grade :thumb:

I also have a 35 ltr version of those barrels as a spare boiler with tesco style elements fitted and have used it with no probs. Also my yellow barrels are brand new i have 3 of them alltogether.

Jesus! i know wine produces CO2 but that rooms full of the stuff!! just had to open a window to let some fresh air in it almost knocked me out. You can hear every barrel hissing away fermentation is going like the clappers in there! :D

Just out of curiousity, screamlead, how much did your mate pay for the larger blue barrels? From their colour and the 'clamp' to seal the lid, they look to be similar to those which are sold in hardware stores, here in France, for fermentation of fruit (generally for the production of eau-de-vie). In France, these large barrels are horribly expensive in the hardware stores - which is why I use the 250 litre black plastic shipping barrels (with screw rings to 'clamp' the lid down). These I can source for 15 to 20 € each. I don't know if these are 'food grade' plastic. It seems that often they've been used to ship pickled onions and gherkins - which means that I have to spend quite some time cleaning them, and leaving them to air, before pressing them into service. However if I can buy them the season before I expect to use them, they appear to be fine by then. At least I've had no complaints from those who have drunk the cider in whose production I've used them!
