I'm thinking about adding some nice things to my new brew pot. One of the things i found, was a false bottom. Is this only used for them herms n' rims systems?

No, they're used without the need for HERMS/RIMS, very popular in the US. Great with whole/cone hops as long as they/you allow a good depth of hops on top of them to act as a filter, but almost completely useless when using pellet hops.
If looking for a copper/boiler filter that can handle both pellet and whole hops go for a hop stopper of some variety :thumb:

If you BIAB as I do in a boiler with an exposed heating element then its essential for keeping the bag off the element in the early stages.

Ideally it should be SS.
