False Bottom Question

Just wondering if anyone has made, or uses a perforated stainless steel false bottom in a rectangular coolbox.

I have a 32l Thermos box and currently use a home false bottom, made from drilling and shaping a plastic chopping board, which sits over a braided hose.

It works very well but because the plastic is so thick, the holes clog up quite badly and it's a pain in the backside to clean properly.

I've come across a company on Merseyside who can supply and cut the sheet to size (and maybe even shape it) and I'm waiting for a price back from the measurements sent. Though I reckon it's going to be around £30.

So, It would be nice to see if anyone else is using steel sheet in their mash tun and perhaps could show off their set up with a few pics.

i use a viking tun which came with a thin perspex fb the holes drilled are 1mm and are in a >1inch sq grid pattern, so much less than with a SS equivalent, the feet are PP budget 22mm pipe clips.. its been laser cut to fit very snugly and has less then 1mm gap round the edge. not stuck once, but the last 2l do take a while to dribble out, i just leave a jug under it while i start the boil..
Perhaps the thinner sheet material allows didy bits thru rather than clogging??

Im so impressed with it ive tried to copy it for a bigger build, but did need to use thicker perspex for strength, and drilled 2mm holes so far with a single use/test no probs so far :)..

i think the problem with fabricating a ss fb will be creating a perfect pattern for a good snug fit. but thats the common problem with all fbs in all odd shaped coldboxes. if you have a good snug fitting pattern with your existing job u can use that as the pattern

I first started AG brewing with a 30 litre tea urn and a coolbox mash tun.
I used a small round ss false botton perfectly well. Slip on some silicone tubing around it ( tied on with a bit of copper wire ) so it seals on the bottom of the tun...No problem
