I've bought four Woodfordes Sundew kits for £9.99 each, reading through the reviews ,there's mixed opinions on them.

I'm thinking of using them in conjunction with various varieties of these extract kits http://www.thehomebrewcompany.co.uk/hbc ... -1640.html .

Do you think the resulting beer flavour would be better using both cans of Sundew or just one can of Sundew plus one can of light LME? :wha:

I'm never convinced by brews like that... I think you start with too many unknowns to be sure of what the result will be.

I tend to think you should brew kits as kits first and foremost but pep them up with some extra ingredients. This one seems to lend itself well to a bit of modification as it's light bodied and delicately hopped.

Hop teas and dry hops would be fun if you like american style "in your face" hoppy beers, while some steeped speciality malts could lend body and malty depth as well as colour.

Remember that if you attempt to use it as the extract in an extract kit you already have a lot of bitterness in the extract and a lot of flavour. That's going to change the result of the extract kit which has been formulated to give a particular beer. So instead of brewing some beer which is known (which you may or may not like) you will brew some beer which is unknown (which you may or may not like) but which is not the beer either kit maker intended.

Thanks CS , I've sent for 2kg. of Caragold crystal malt, Cascade,Citra,Amarillo and Summit hops ( the ones I like and familiar with in commercial beers ) from the MaltMiller to experiment with.

I'm going to use 1 can of the Sundew and one 1.5Kg can of light liquid ME , 250g of caragold and a selection of hops for each 23L extract brew .
I haven't a clue of how much hops to use or timings though so I could do with a little help from someone please?
