I'm contemplating my first extract batch and I'm hoping for help and to tap the vast knowledge on this forum, I've only done kits so far but I will eventually move on to AG, but for now I'd like -

Fabulous when done
Simple enough for a first one
Quick to get to the fab stage ( OK I know that's a bit contradictory)
Brew length. 10 -15 litres.

I don't mind steeping some grain so partial mash is an option.

I've got a Festival Landlords conditioning and a Better Brew Pilsner to bottle in a few days so maybe a nice Stout a nice dry one Irish style?

If a splendid stout is a no go then my tastes run to

Landlords
Badgers Golden Champion
Budvar / decent lager
Directors. I'm quite versatile :-)
Most good bitter.

So if you could point me to a good recipe I'd really appreciate it. I don't have the experience to just read a recipe and know if it will be good so a simple search won't help me much :(
.

Many Thanks for your help.

Hi,
The porter in how to brew by John Palmer (available online) was my first brew and came out lovely really typical dark porter taste. The only thing to remember is that it is in US gals so comes short unless you amend quantities. I ended up changing quantities to meet 5gals UK... Will try to find the link.

I've just done my first brew and it was with extract. I think/hope that the below will make a very good, strongish best bitter and all indicators are good so far. It's been in bottles for a few days now. It was drinkable after 16 days in the fv and I am battling with the will power to hold fire for another 4 or 5 weeks. This was how it went for me:

3kg light malt extract
1kg amber speymalt
250g crystal malt
50g First Gold (in the boil for an hour)
26g Bramling cross (in the boil for an hour)
50g East golding (once off the boil, left for another hour)

All of that lot with 20litres of water making 23.5l in total. After 16 days I batch primed with 90g cane sugar (boiled up with some water) and then bottled. I have 11.2l (funny sized bottles) left.

I am quite excited...

Grrrrr.....

I bought at great price a hole saw kit, but the 38 mm saw was not there so I contacted the supplier and fine they sent out a new kit, again no 38 mm saw.......

So now I have 2 kits and I still can't fit my element :( I really don't want to buy Again!
