This is where I have got to so far for the Zee Brewery.

First part

My question is where do I go next? :wha:

1. Continue down the route of a HERMS brewery. Use the Cygnet as the HERMS, the other Urn as the HLT, Keg as boiler and Igloo as MT?

or

2. As I have never AGed before, convert a cool box and make a 23l basic system first (Urns as boiler and HLT)?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Second part.

How much strike water will I need for sparging when I have the 50litre (I think) brewery up and running? will the 30-35ish litre (not accurately measured yet) Tea urn hold enough?

Will the Cygnet urn be suitable as the Herms and what temp do I need to hold the water at?

Any other suggestions/advise would be welcomed

Not sure why the photo didn't upload. Lets try again.

If you have not AG brewed yet I would stay away from herms to start with the Igloo will suffice for a mash tun and will hold temp very well for 90 mins with very little heat loss, as long as you use the correct quantity of mash liquor. once you can walk you can run, and start to look at HERMS.

The amount of sparge water will depend on recipe etc but remember if you mash with 16ltrs water 4-6ltrs will be soaked up by the grain, and quite a quantity will boil away so to get 50ltrs finished you would need to work out what final gravity is required and do a few brews to experiment.

If you download a copy of promash, demo version is free, you can play about without mash liqour/total liqour quantities etc

How much do the urns each hold as strike and sparge water temps and quantities are more important than herms to start with.
