hi i have a coopers English bitter in a fv with a air lock and a tap, its finished fermenting (10 days) and i have a corny waiting but its still cloudy! now don't shout at me but i normally wait about 3 to 4 weeks until its clear( i know thats wrong) then in the corny it goes never had a problem(yet) how would a expert do it???

There's nothing wrong with leaving your beer in the FV for 3-4 weeks waiting for it to clear. Some people will say you run the risk of off flavors due to yeast autolysis and others will say that really only applies to the massive amounts of yeast in commercial brews. I leave my big beers in the FV for 3-4 weeks as part of my standard procedure and have never had any problems with it.

Another option is to rack to secondary and clear with cold conditioning and/or gelatin. Whatever works for you. I'd say you are incredibly patient to wait that long! :thumb:

thanks baz thats what i was worried about leaving it on the yeast and picking up a funny taste i will leave it til it clears

I'd be interested in hearing from others who have had a different experience. Anyone leave their beers in the fv for 3-4 weeks and have a problem with off flavors that they could not attribute to anything else in the process?

I'm inclined to agree with you Baz, although as a novice I have no feedback for you. The first two brews I racked off to a another bucket after getting a stable SG, left it for a few days in the warm, then a few days in a cool cellar, then bottled. With my current brew, a delicately hopped pale little number, it's now down to the expected FG, so I'm going to leave it in the fv for another few days, then the cool cellar, then bottle. I'll let you know the results. You'll need a plentiful supply of liquid for a week on Sunday ;)
