I've come back to find this...should I remove the air lock and clean it ? Will the beer be infected if I don't?

Beer is unlikely to be infected if it's producing co2 at that rate.

But it's a good idea to clean the airlock now, because it will be a bugger to clean later when it's dried on.

May as well clean lid & give it a spray with sanitizer (or whatever you use for sterilising)

it’s not an issue as such but this time of year it will only attract the flies. Wipe it down with some starsan and kitchen roll.

No, the beer won't be infected as the airlock is ensuring that nothing (not even sticky beer mess) can get into the fermenter. Stuff can only get out.
