All she did was crush the unions before they destroyed the country.

Since then labour (actually Phony Blair) did it on their own without the Unions

She also setup a system of taxes that encouraged the likes of Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW, Volkswagen, TATA etc to invest in vehicle manufacturing in this country, without the ability to repatriate some of the profits from those business' we'd be short of those 10 od thousands of jobs.

There is a discussion about The Lady on another forum I use (motorbikes), as with this it is very polarised, however the challenge has been made to name a better PM in the last 100 years, excluding the two obvious choices of Churchill and Atlee.

As I said on another forum -

We emerged from WWII effectively broke but leading in the fields of marine, aerospace, radar, sonar, computing, rail, automotive and leading so strongly that only the USA could even begin to match us.

Fast forward 60 years and absolutely all of it has been squandered. This is only explicable by gratuitous failures of leadership by each consecutive government, Labour and Tory.

So the really baffling thing is why people continue to vote for the same political entities that have ground us into dust. I guess we get the government we deserve.

And a concerted effort by our 'allies' to ensure that we didn't make best use of this technology.

The 'loan' they gave us, the one that we only finally paid off in the last 10 years or so, that included a requirement to float the pound on the worl market, resulting in the Govt having to spemd most of the loan on buying pounds to support the currency.

The deal they cut requiring Whittle to hand over all details of his most advanced engines, and never use the development knowledge again.

Add in a few other little items and the US were possibly the worst enemy this country has ever had
