You don't even need that, I survived my first year without a hydrometer. A thermometer is a godsend for trying to get to grips with the temps though.

Arguably an airlock would be good but thats personal preference, I always use one, some people don't.

Oh, and a funnel or two, at least until you get a Little Bottler.
 
I'd get a hydrometer before an airlock but agree with Plumpy that patience is essential (though probably not the answer you were looking for).

A Little Bottler is a must if you plan on bottling.
