Hi I was in ikea yesterday when I spotted a 500ml bottle of elderflower cordial has anyone ever used this to make elderflower wine if so can you post a recipe cos I love ef wine but once it's flowered your stuffed until next year

In your signature block I see you've got a “WOW variant” made with WGJ + apple juice.

That isn't a WOW variant, it is often referred to as Basic White, and if anything WOW is a variant of Basic White.

Anyway, that's what you need, start another Basic White and when fermentation has quietened down so that you think it is safe to top up your DJ, add your elderflower cordial, perhaps in a couple of stages over 2-3 days.

Are there any preservatives listed on the label?

If so, add 100ml a day for 5 days and your working yeasties will probably ignore them.

ahhhh so its really that easy eh, thanks for that and according to the bottle there are no preservatives listed also will one bottle suffice or would i need more

One bottle will probably do nicely, if you add a flavouring ingredient later in a fermentation, more of that flavour is retained in the finished product.

If its the Belvour brand it has no preservatives so you can add straight away my recipe was

Elderflower cordial wine 1 gallon.

1 500ml bottle Belvour Elderflower cordial
3 litres Morrisons white grape juice
450 grams sugar
1 teaspoon citric acid
1 teaspoon pectolase
1/2 teaspoon tannin
1 teaspoon yeast nutrient
bentonite (optional)
Youngs super wine yeast compound
sg:1090.

This wine a nice dry white but a little to much Elderflower taste but I still drank the lot.I decided to 1/2 the cordial and try something different.

Elderflower cordial wine 2 gallons.

1 500ml bottle Belvour Elderflower cordial
4 litres white grape juice
2 litres apple juice
2 tins Youngs white grape enhancer
1 kg sugar
2 teaspoons citric acid
2 teaspoons pectolase
1 teaspoon tannin
2 teaspoon nutrient
bentonite
Youngs super wine yeast compound.

This wine has fermented and is at the clearing stage at the moment and is looking good.

Hi,

i have a 500ml cordial to try. I want to make 5 litres but dont want the abv anymore than 12%.

If I add 400ml of the cordial, and with the WGJ and apple juice I make the sugar around 285g. How much more sugar would I need to get 12% if I am fermenting out to dry? Is it around to 700 mark?

i was offered a bottle of elderflower cordial tonight in the pub (the bar maid is good to me :) )
so glad there is a recipe for it
will have to go and pick it up tomorrow now lol i have such a hard life
making mead as well tomorrow good times :D
