There was an item on Radio 4 about Autumn arriving late this year and exceptionally slow starts and low numbers of things fruiting at this time of year compared to previous years. I have elder next to my house and have a few bunches of mature berries, but most are still ripening and only just changing colour. Be patient and they will come!

I agree with Moley about the sloes and damsons. There's heaps about.
I have to travel a bit for elderberries but there's plenty about when you find them. Just starting to take colour on the ones that are in the sun so it'll still be two or three weeks at least for the main crop.
Lots of blackberrys too but I'll not bother this year. I have three or four cultivated plants and when they start producing I'll have more fruit than I know what to do with - without the thorns.

Last years brew of Elderberry has turned out better than i could have hoped for and i was concerned about the lack of berrys this year as i wanted to make another batch.
Pleased to say i have found a new patch and the bushes are heavily laden so fingers crossed, the berrys are still green but i can wait as i now know what a great wine they make. cheers Dave NE
