Does anyone have any taste feedback on El Dorado hops please?
I did a search, but could only find a couple of passing mentions in posts from 2010 :wha:

I've a 100g pack that I would like to try in a brew this weekend. Thanks :thumb:

Make it smash or almost and let us know. ;)

My usual procedure with new hops is to brew pale ale (80% pilsner or pale, 15% pale Munich or Vienna, 5% caramalt) then hop to 35 IBU with schedule similar to popular Mysterio's SNPA clone, 30 gms 10 mins from end, 70 gms at flameout or at whirlpool, top up with Magnum or other clean bittering hop at 60 mins to desired bitterness.

Yeah, I don't think I've enough of the El Dorado for a 40 litre batch to do it as a SMASH.
I think I will use some Challenger for bittering and work out some additions for flavour and aroma/steep with hopefully enough left to dry hop at least half of the batch.
I will do a brewday thread........if I can get my head around photobucket that is

Decided to go with this I think.

Pale Malt 95%
Munich Malt 5%
Challenger 35g 90 mins - 20 IBU
El Dorado 35g 15 mins - 17 IBU
El Dorado 35g 2 mins - 3 IBU
OG 1050
I've got a 2 litre WLP001 starter for it and this should get the FG somewhere around 1007 if I mash at 67/68 degrees.

I made my beer on Saturday evening.
Had to replace a small amount of Munich with Caragold as I didn't quite have enough in stock.

The El Dorado hops smelt beautiful (pellets).....very resinous and pungent. Quite a floral (almost pine) background smell, but the overwhelming characteristic was fruit, sweet fruit.......plum, peach and apricot :D
As well as the schedule mentioned above, I chucked another 10g in a knock-out and that gives me 20g left for dry hopping.

Well, I am drinking this beer as I type.
The characteristics are still as I described above, but are much more subdued. Still very nice though, soft and fruity. They compliment well the challenger bittering addition and I will definately brew with them again. They would work well as bittering hop I think too.
It's quite dry as got down to 1007, but the Munich and sweetness of the hops balances it well.

I've not tried the dried hop batch yet....will report back

I made an AIPA style beer using just this hop, I put it my chest freezer to crash cool at 0c yesterday. The unfermented wort tasted really good but not so good after fermenting, first time pitching on to a previous yeast cake so may have been a mistake.

I used 15g start boil
15g last 30mins
15g last 5 mins
15g last 1 min
IBU's 69 :D
May put a hop bag in the corny!
