It's been a very long time since any of the black stuff graced the taps of the Effin Brewery, So I've decided to do a short brew possibly by batch sparging . . . possibly a no sparge . . . not decided yet

I give you Effin Oatmeal Stout

For 45 Litres at 1.046 (75%) and 36IBU (Tinseth)

6500g Pale Malt
1250g Flaked Barley
750g Flaked Oats
600g Roast Barley

and thanks to the excellent service from Paul at Barley Bottom I will be using

100g Bramling Cross (5.8% Alpha) for 90 minutes

And thats it . . traditional stout no flavour / aroma hops although I like to think that the BC will provide a lovely Blackcurrant base tot he beer . . . . and I'm desperately trying to restrain myself from throwing in a handful of Nelson Sauvin at the end of the boil . . . its just not to style.

Yeast will be my old standby of Windsor. . . . It just does the job . . . . although I may see if I can get some SO4 for this one.

Have a cracking brew Aleman

It's almost a year since I got my Oatmeal stout in the boiler but then had to ditch it, will have another go I think :thumb:

Using a large amount of grain so that you get your preboil volume and gravity from the mash run off.

A big ass mash!

I did it with an IPA in January then sparged the tun to make a different beer :thumb:

:hmm: Whenever, there is no hurry . . . I've 4 more to clean and dismantle.

I've got to head over to Joe's tomorrow to see if I can get some flaked barley and flaked oats for this brew . . . and some yeast . . . Does he stock the WB-06 yeast I'll get some for the wit.

Not sure about the yeast to be honest he may or if he does not have it then he would more than likley order some in.

Just checking when the home matches are as the boy has alot of games to attend between school and tarleton RUFC.. pretty much a game both sat and sunday.

Nail hit on the head their Vossy... I have been thinking the same .. Time for a proper stout so its ready just in time for chrimbo even though I did one about 2 months ago I have found it is just not quite stouty enough so im going to pop another brew on very soon.

More stout!
More Oats!

I better get a move on!!

Hope its a good one, its a dark one! (Blacker than Thou)

Broke the girth straps on the horses saddle . . . so had to get a new one, and the saddler couldn't give a definite time and day he could make it at such short notice . . . So I couldn't get over to Joes for some stuff on the Saturday, and couldn't brew on the Sunday.

Still I will get it done . . . just order from another supplier now.

Which brings me to a question what yeast for a wit?

Brewferm Blanche
Safbrew BB-06
Safbrew S-33

I may do a Boh Pils this weekend instead as I have all the stuff for that . . . including 400g of lovely Saaz from Barley Bottom
