I'm planning a bitter for the brew after next and I'd like to use a small amount of Meridian organic blackstrap molasses, mainly for colour adjustment. I can't find an EBC colour rating for it anywhere though.
Does anyone know roughly what it is?
:cheers7:

Brewmate tells me it 157.8 EBC
Beersmith also has generic 'molasses' at 157.6, but this seems really low as the blackstrap is opaque black.
Invert No.4 is about 600 EBC apparently, and this can be approximated using just around 20% blackstrap with 80% golden syrup according to the link below, so I was thinking the EBC of the blackstrap itself might be somewhere around 2000-2500 EBC???

I think your right, as doing a bit of googling, there are more then one type of molasses. The EBC for molasses in brewing software is probably for medium or dark molasses. Whereas Blackstrap is darker still. Cant find an EBC (or Lovibond for that matter) for it though

I drew a blank with the googling too. It would be good to know whether my guestimation is somewhere close as being so dark a little more or less could make a big difference to beer colour.
Might have to be a case of give it a try and adjust next time.
