Just checked the couple I have empty at the moment. Thankfully nothing lurking. Inside looks nice and clean.
I use a cleaner / sanitizer in one which is based on sodium percarbonate.
Hopefully if you clean with something similar it will shift it.

I’ve had the same thing in my bike bottles. Caused by the sugary hi 5 energy drinks I assume.

Yeah And I am lazy and only give them a soak in water, usually a few days after use

So how would I know which are reusable? I'm confused!!
Reading the earlier posts I thought they were, how would a new comer know??

If the bung in the top of the keg is made of a rubber like material with a
Red centre piece for releasing pressure, it should be reusable.
A lot of them nowadays are coming with a rigid plastic bung which is difficult to
remove without damaging the metal of the keg.
The one in the photo is the style you want

Also. a number of the pre-filled kegs have a CO2 cylinder inside that allows the beer to be delivered from a tap fitted to the top of the keg.

1. It can't be removed without virtually destroying the keg.
2. They are becoming much more popular for some reason!

It's a subtle difference, but that's the one with the black plastic centre that is a b*tch to remove without damaging the keg. The one in the photo above has the softer red centre. It can be done but it requires a good deal of swearing.

I never managed to get one of that type off without destroying the bung.
Gave up with that style in the end.

Bungs are cheap.

I have removed them but require a bit of work and for £13 you can get two empty kegs.

Use a hack saw blade and made several cuts then use pliers to remove

Bungs are cheap yes. I bought 80 last week from Leyland home brew @ 50p each.
That should last me a while.
I think @Tony Tiler might be thinking he can reuse the speck hen keg bung.
I drilled lots of small holes in them on an angle until they could be pulled out.
Took ages though and as you said, £6.00 odd now for the easy kegs made to be reused.

I know. Went a bit mad. I’ve had a problem reusing the Huber style ones lately.
They’re all on their third or fourth use and some are starting to leak gas. Lost confidence in reusing, so I bought a load. A big load.
I’ve got 10 kegs. 6 easy kegs and 4 that had Jaipur in.

The last one I did was nibble it with side cutters and managed to twist it out with pliers, took about 5 min. Replaced with some old rubber ones I've got from older kegs that went rusty as just use with built in tap so can vent pressure

Right guys, bung successfully removed in around 30 seconds, seems to be intact but we'll see if it pressurises.
I used something similar to a large double ended Allen key, fed it through the hole and rotated then pulled upwards, as you can see no damage at all to the keg. I think Mungri must have cleared Leyland out as I can't locate any anywhere...
