With venting what I'm essentially trying to do is eliminate the yeast bite you can get if you just open the keg and start dinking it straight away

By doing the valve mod you still have the ability to vent it first as normal with something small pressing the valve then use the pump as and when the pressure drops

............ N.B. you may want to attach the pump to the valve before fitting the bung as pushing down on it may result in the valve dropping into the keg.

I agree entirely! :thumb:

Plus, IF (when?) you push the Schrader Valve into the MK it's a hell of a job getting it out.

After 20 minutes of increasing frustration I used the method similar to one I used to rob Piggy Banks as a child. :thumb:

A 100mm x 35mm long piece of thin but stiff plastic rolled into a "half-pipe" shape and pushed half way into the MK.

The MK was than juggled about until the valve landed on the "scoop" bit of the plastic and slithered out of the hole.

Note: Should the bit of plastic fall into the MK it will be even more difficult to remove!

PS

Got four of these to give the system a try ...

... but finished up modifying the bike pump to fit the Flexi-Tap.

That's quite ingenious! I use a Party Star though so no good to me. I'd quite like a drip tray though. Leyland is the only place I've seen them but not needing to buy anything else at the moment.

Yeah a drip tray would be great, I twist my tap up but still got a few drips initially.

My worry would be the weight, as it would be top heavy.

Incidentally, look on amazon.de & how cheap a mini keg full of beer is.
I had 5 in my basket before reading they will not ship to the UK

Warsteiner (the stuff I think is sold in Lidl) is €7.50 for a 5l keg!

Apparently they work ok. Don't need one myself

You seem surprised about the price. Have your always 're-purposed' your filled -when -bought- from-- a supermarket-mk's for HBing? As I bought all mine from BrewUK and their the same price (£6)

Only a couple. Bought others from leyland, I must have factored in postage.
