I had never heard of them until 5 minutes ago when Anna on 5 live said she has one and apparently they are becoming the thing to have, being a miserable barsteward i have already told SWMBO we will not be buying/making one.

When I was about 15 at home with a couple of my mates, a couple of girls knocked on my front door and started to sing 'chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me......' as a sort of Easter carol singing thing. I wasn't sure what Easter 'carols' were all about and still am not to be honest. Similar to your tree.

Anyway, now as a much older bloke and dad, I'd find that quite a nice effort. Back then though, we were typical teen ar$e holes and sent them packing.

My mother's been doing this for almost 2 decades. It's nothing new.
I believe it is tradition in some parts of Germany too as my wife spent some years there as a child and her family continued the tradition back in the UK.
