Nice to see you Dutto!
Thought you were list in France or sumit...
Risk taker...risk a few extra pints tonight..

@Clint Thanks for that. Actually, I feel fit enough to go over to France against UK Gov recommendations to fetch a caravan. We've been trying to fetch it back for most of 2020 so we may as well take the opportunity before the UK and/or France goes into full Lockdown because of the virus and restricts movement!

I still can't walk without a Zimmer Frame, Crutches or a 3-Wheel Walker, but as we have an automatic car I can drive and tow a caravan; although I'll have to rely on SWMBO and French friends to hook up the caravan when we get to France! Ever the optimist, by the time we get it home I should be fit enough to unhook it, Inshallah. 🙏

When we get back to the UK we will also have to do two weeks of quarantine where we won't be allowed to put a foot outside our own property so it may be time to re-start the brewing again! Watch this space! athumb.. athumb..

Good stuff @Dutto what better excuse to brew beer. Safe journey and we'll see you soon....

Back from France, caravan in storage and us in quarantine until 10th October! athumb..

Tried the Coopers European Lager today. I class the brew as “drinkable”, but it still has the metallic aftertaste even if it has reduced over the last week!

Here's hoping that it improves a bit more before I have to order some Rose's Lime Juice from Tesco to make my way through the rest of the 20 litres! :laugh8:

No such thing as "out of date", Dutto, it's "pre-conditioning".

The FG came in at 1.010 and the sample tasted just fine, so I definitely agree.

It was a bit darker than I would have expected of an IPA, but not dark enough to put me off! :beer1:

The brew is now in:
  • Keg “A” - Being carbonated at 10psi and sat on the bench at +/- 15*C (that will drop to +/-10*C overnight). I hope this will clear enough to start drinking it in about a week.
  • Keg”B” - In the fridge at the original 23*C fermentation temperature along with 2 Demi-morceau (bought in France about 2019) of sugar. I will give this keg a couple of days to carbonate and then cold crash it to 10*C for ten days to clear before starting Brew No.2/22.
Brew 2/22 will be a Coopers English Bitter (also OOD of course). clapa

It’s good to be back! athumb.. athumb..

..Good!? Better than that!

Just read my September Posts back in 2020! The trip to France must have set me back because the Surgeon who repaired the break told me:
  • In October 2020 to be patient and wait for more “bone growth” before using my broken leg.
  • In April 2021 that I could “weight bear” on the leg.
  • In December 2021 I was discharged as being fit - but advised to take life easy and try not to break any more bones!
It’s been a weird two years but you’re correct - life is better than good and being back is FANTASTIC!

Today I move the “Out of Date” Coopers IPA from the fridge into 10 litre SS kegs; one with CO2 injection and a tap for drinking sometime soon and the 2nd carbonated with 10g of sugar for later.

Here’s hoping!
🙏🙏🙏
Good to see you back at it Dutto....

Still cloudy and tastes a bit metallic - but I’ve finished the Brewdog so the Coopers IPA is being consumed anyway!
athumb.. athumb..

Today I started on the OOD Coopers English Bitter with a can of Coopers LME; that gave an OG of 1.050.

I will buy a new Fermenter before I get the next batch under way. During the IPA I only had the “glub glub” effect for the first couple of days, so for this brew I smeared a bit of Vaseline around the rim in order to get a seal. I will check and see if it has worked in a few days.

Just checked ABV! Apparently, if the brew manages a 1.010 FG then the ABV will be over 5%!

I doubt if I will be awake after a couple of pints of that; but here’s hoping I get back into the swing of things!

Just put the Coopers English Bitter into Kegs “C” & “D” with 400ml of EKG Hop Tea, 1g per litre of sugar and back in the fridge at 22*C for three days. (This is to build pressure in the kegs before Cold Crashing for a week.)

The FG was at 1,014 which will give an ABV of 4.73%.

The sample tasted good so here’s hoping that, in about two weeks, I should have a clear, hoppy and nice tasting Bitter.
athumb..

Next venture is a St Peter’s Ruby Red Ale. This one is NEW; plus, by the time it arrives (3rd May) I hope to have a new Fermenter on the go.

Happy Days!

Next venture is a St Peter’s Ruby Red Ale.

I've done three brews of the St Peter's Ruby Red kit. I don't have space for anything other than kits brewed in 30L fermenting bins that I can stack and hide in a cupboard when not in use. I condition in the bottle. After 3 weeks the Ruby Red was quite drinkable. After six it was very much improved but after 9 weeks it was exceptional. Big fan of St Peter's. It, and Brewferm, taught me patience to allow the beer to blossom. Only the St Peter's Honey Porter kit let me down. I didn't like that one at all.

Er …. I gave up bottling many moons ago on the basis that:
  • 330ml disappeared in seconds
  • 500ml bottles took ages to fill
  • even 650ml bottles were a faff
I ended up with 25 litre and 10 litre plastic and now use a Sodastream CO2 Cylinder & Regulator, two Beer Taps and four 10 litre SS Kegs.

With my drinking habits I probably “need” a couple more 10 litre kegs a couple more pressure regulated caps …

… but as a married man “need” cuts very little ice where SWMBO is concerned!

Apparently, the answer is “Brew less and drink less.” for some reason!
:hat:

PS

The “NEW” means “Not past its use by date”!

I made it prior to suspending activities and agree that it gets better with a bit of “age”. Hence the “need” for a couple more kegs!

Which kegs did you buy Dutto?

Having said the above (and bemoaned my “need” for more SS Kegs) I then saw an advert on Amazon that offered a 10L SS Beer Keg complete with a Tap, Screw Cap and Pressure Gauge for £71 - so I ordered two!

I figured that a matched pair would fulfil the “need” …

… and if they are not like their description they can be returned free of charge.
