I'm afarid that i take a very lazy approach to sterilisation, etc. I'll clean barrels with VWP, rinse with water & store. After that, they'll get a quick rinse with boiling water before use. Dry hops are weighed out onto a plate taken from the top of the pile in the kitchen. I break up any lumps with my hands. Having said that, I tend to use post-boil hops much more often than dry hops. Maybe that's the explanation. So far (fingers crossed), I've never lost a batch to infections.

This has been a interesting topic to read - I'm planning on doing some dry-hopping for my IPA. Think I will be sterilising the hop bags and then just popping the hops in and then into the FV, with string on the outside. Job done, see how it goes.

I dry hopped some Sundew but only bottled it on Friday... however I see (I always use one or two clear bottles) that it is already clear, so I can pop one into the fridge and try drinking it tomorrow, if I remember. Will feed back whether I can detect any hoppiness!

Tried my Sundew just now, and absolutely yes, I can detect the impact of both the hop tea and the dry hopping. Quite wonderful.

But t's still not as hoppy as I like - I love the Tring beers like Moon Gazer.

Thinking of dry hopping a Wilko Golden Ale I've got in a FV.
This is a very interesting thread, I think I'm just gonna chuck the (Styrian Goldings) 50g straight in for about the last five days as they are and let nature "do its thang!!"
I've got an other 1/2 a pack for a Coopers APA.
