Dropped Thermometer Argh

I dropped my thermometer last night having started for an overnight mash IPA, and then noticed the readings had gone weird. Will it fix itself? Can I take the reading to be the top of the last blob?

What sort of thermometer have you got?

I can't remember what sort I got to be honest, I don't think it's an expensive one if that helps.

Is it a glass one or electronic? I'm guessing glass and the alcohol has separated. Not much you can do about that, apart from maybe shake it. It won't be accurate, but you could test it in boiling and iced water to see what it reads.

Yeah, I put it some tap water with the green house thermometer, it seems the top two "blobs" are lying to me.

replace it, glass thermometers are cheap enough

I managed to fix mine after the same problem by putting it in boiling water then cold tap water. Just repeat a few times until the gaps close up
