Aargh just used spray malt instaed of beer kit enhancer for the first time on a pilsner lager kit and just realised that its only 500g (idiot ) not a kilo so og was only 1033 with sg now at 1011 after fermmentation is over. can i just chuck another 500g of spray malt in or have i screwed it ?

You still alive  it didn't eat you  I had the same before when i poured in a kg of honey to a fermenter to fast, i had lots of cleaning up to do

Phew, what were you thinking listening to that guy? Maybe Aleman can clear up why that happens. Scary innit? i thought it was something to do with honey but obviously not

Just for the record. Do NOT try that if you have carpet anywhere near the fv. its proper mental  . In future i will just try not to be an idiot in the first place, making secondary idiotry unnecessary

Yeast about to go dormant after a sugar party, due to no readily available sugars being available, then someone suggests/does chuck in a load of sanitised sugar...what would you do.....party

shes bubbling away nicely now. Can i have your address to give to the Mrs in the morning when she sees the carpet ?

Just for the record did you "chuck" it in? i've added honey twice to a fermenter, first time i threw it in and had the same reaction you got but next time i took it easy (very easy) and it was ok. Sorry mate  we never stop learning

Dont worry mate im still laughing about now !. If i ever do it again im getting the camcorder out, it was that cool  . I didnt exactly throw it more of a pour but by the time the pour was finished i had to slam the lid shut in a vain attempt to stop the eruption.

Que? Someone call for a :ugeek:

Let me guess, you didn't make it up into a solution first, and simply poured the very finely powdered solid into a fermenter containing a liquid saturated with CO2 in solution? Yeah, it will foam a bit, the tiny particles act as nucleation sites for bubbles of CO2 which come out of solution, lots of nucleation sites . . . lots of bubbles . . . . lots of foam . . . . lots of mopping up

Why it would happen with honey I have no idea.

Best way to add stuff is to draw off a few pints of wort and stir it in to that and then add it back to the FV . . . . much more controllable
