Amon Amarth ain't bad for chugging some ale, although Talking heads - remain in light was on the deck last night.Check out Scandinavian, especially Finnish death metal. Otherwise, Alestorm. Drinking songs are not supposed to be sophisticated. "Captain Morgan's Revenge" is indicative of the genre. But Korpens Saga from ur jordens djup by Finntroll is amazing.
Warning contains strong language and references to Boddingtons.

All this talk got me reaching for the Moonsorrow, which is not drinking music, just good music to have on while you're drinking, especially the Wolf's Dream, and a very late night. Haven't listened to Talking Heads for yonks. Might give them a spin tonight - that would be my good lady's preference in any case.

You're so right. I had forgotten about Korpiklaani (I like my stuff a bit darker) but they are, as you say, devotees of the genre.Korpiklaani are the daddies when it comes to Scandinavian metal drinking songs.
Your Granddad was clearly a man of taste.So....That's why my Granddad liked Mario Lanza so much (and I'm sure he had a copy of the Slim Dusty number...!!)
