I still occasionally visit the Harris winemaking forum, but only as a lurker and rarely post. I consider that something of a shame because that forum is my first point of reference if I need to learn something new about winemaking.

I passed some comment there recently that I am no longer an active part of that forum due to their software issues and database crashes, but mostly that I had got bored of the lack of activity. This was challenged with claims that it was a very active forum, so I jotted down some numbers. I have just jotted down some more numbers and done some sums.

Harris forum, started May 2004, now 3898 members.
THBF, started July 2008, now 4945 members.

In exactly one week:

Harris forum, 299 new posts (of which 36 in the silly word games), 27 new topics, 7 new members.
THBF: 1,112 new posts (of which only 8 in the silly word games), 152 new topics, 67 new members.

Sorting our own membership database by date last visited, descending, 548 THBF registered members have visited at least once during that week! I don't have a comparison for Harris but I would guess at less than 50, the most I have seen online at any one time during that week has been 7.

Whilst I'm only new on here - I decided to sign up here as the Harris forum was really dull and a little boring, with hardly any activity going on. Found here through the Harris forum so it does have some value (via the WoW thread).

Although I'm not likely to be a massive poster here, there is certainly enough going on to make it worth a visit a few times a day (although generally a lot more often).

Interesting stats Moley :thumb:

I have always said that while the admin and mods make THBF a useable, safe and friendly place, the members really make it what it is, were it not for the friendly and informative member-base people would soon walk away. :thumb:

PS. we have very knowledgable mods too (they dont just kill spammers) although one of them does notch spammers on the bedpost which is ace :thumb: :D our very own answer to Tackleberry!
