double temperture guage

been homebrewing for about a year or so but i was never happy with my temperture guages tryed a few different ones still not happy with accuracy so i thought i would make a fixed temperture probe so this is what i came up with it is two basic temperture guages 2 pt100 probes a couple of switches and canon plug connectors a bit of soldering and screwing cut o few holes and hey presto! works of a old computer 19v charger i will be drilling holes and fixing one into my mash tum and one into my boiler so i can get a acurite stike temperture got most of my bits from fleabay

just done some calculations on all the bits i bought, the plastic case two switches two temperture monitors two pt100 probes two sets of plugs and sockets a few bits of wire it cost me approx £40 with all the fleabay postage cost i could have done it cheaper with cheaper plugs or no plugs just wire fixed to the monitor lose the switches but hey it took me about four hours from start to finish. it was good to tinker i had the 19 volt power supply already from a old laptop

Me too :thumb: PT 100;s ordered @98p ! Temp gauges will have to wait til next month now lol already ordered loads of kit for wifeys trip next month.

That post has reminded me to start getting the bits I need to go HERMS :thumb: , bought the PID months ago but PT100's for 98p! I ordered 2. With all the other bits and pieces my paypal total came to £40 though :shock:

What is the accuracy of these probes? They seem very cheap but if they give true readings i will be geeting some

I can't see what class they are but to give you some idea on accuracy
Class A +/- 0.15 deg c, Class B =/- 0.3deg c, tenth din =/- 0.03 deg c
You also need to take the accuracy of the PID controller/controller into account.

Any which way, accurate enough for home brewing

i see there is alot of interest in the cheap pt 100 probe i used them on a brew last week i had three other probes to keep checking and they were all reading the same. as for accuricy they do what it says on the tin they are cheap and you get what you pay for ! they will do for a while them maybe invest in better quality and maybe longer the only problem i found with the setup was the red led monitor hard to read out in bright daylight (no i didnt say sunny i live in scotland )

Hi Barry,

Finally got my PID from Hong Kong and having trouble with the PT100+ probes (for 98p) I thought they were just PT100's but it seems they may be different and my PID doesn't accept PT100+. However I wire it it doesn't show a sensible temperature. EDIT don't listen to me, they work fine. I just couldn't work out how to set the PID properly

This is my PID, may have to order PT100's after all. :wha:
