Landlord.
My mate Matt (nice alliteration there) came over today to brew using my gear. This was his second and third AG beers. We did a California Common and an Oatmeal stout. Started at around 8:30am and finished up around 4:00pm. There was lunch and a few beers in there so we probably could have pulled the time in a bit. Was an awesome day though. Only cockup was a frozen chiller line which I fixed via hacksaw. ;-)
Pics of our epic day. Apologies for the number. We had a LONG day!!!
Weighing out the grain for the steam beer:
Grains done:
Lighting up Matt's new burner for the strike water
Loading up to crush
Crushing
Crushed
Filling the mash tun with strike water
Doughing in the grain
Matt's stirring it all in
90 minutes later we vorlauf
Carefully putting the recirculated wort back into the tun
Draining into the brew kettle
Adding sparge water
Boiling the steam beer and heating strike water for the stout
Stout grain bill with flaked oats on top
Stirring up the oatmeal stout mash
Still stirring
Chilling the steam beer
Nice clear wort
Pitching a starter of 2112 into the steam beer
First runnings of the stout
Matt dumping the spent grains of the stout for the deer
Reward time
Happy Matt
Happy Baz
Chilling the stout
I get extra chill power from the weather
Matt, chilling with a cider
Whirlpooling the stout
Motor oil
Pitching rehydrated S04
A job well done
Jim,
Here's Bella, growling at the deer in the field behind us
