I've already got her a dozen red roses :thumb:

I won them in a raffle last night

But I could have chosen a bottle of Aussie Chardonnay, so it's the thought that counts

it's times like this that remind me why I stay single

there is no one to complain when I forget

Throughout Spring Summer and into Autumn I buy a bunch of flowers for my wife to put around the house, we both enjoy them.
This week is the one week of the year I do not buy flowers, they are far too over priced.

I'm from an age when you only bought valentines card if you were trying to pull, if I were to buy one she would wonder what I was up to.

I'm a right unromantic sod when it comes to valentine/hallmark day - everything goes up in price in a cynical move by retailers to rip those poor unfortunates off that feel obliged to do something to mark one day of the year - sod that!!!

Even flowers are mental - I remember going to buy roses for my fiancée, 20 roses for £14, a dozen roses for £25 ???

Oh well, I'll be generous and buy her 8 extra roses

Fvcking rip off city!!

Sod all that - glad my Mrs isn't even in the same country this week - now I certainly don't feel bad about skipping this stupid event

Overheard a couple of yummie mummies in school playground toady discussing that one of their partners has booked a meal via groupon vouchers....her mate was horrified..

My other half always gets a card, a big kiss and a cuddle as I pack her off to work, whilst I get the ironing done

Card bought... that's it.

Neither of us really bother with Valentines day. We'll have a nice meal at the weekend where we will enjoy something we wouldn't normally buy (20oz T-Bone for me, I think SWMBO is going for a beef wellington).

Having said that I did look at the roses on offer in Sainsburys. They were in dreadful condition. Must have been around 40 of them and I couldn't pick a nice one out of the bunch. They were £5 EACH too, and while the price isn't what matters... if I was stumping £5 for one flower, it had to be perfect, so that was that plan dashed.

I always donate the money it woulda cost to buy some pointless gift to a local animal shelter... first time I did it she was so chuffed that I got exactly what I wanted that night

Now I do it every year, although the desired effect has weakened slightly :(

I've got a few pics of my Valentines dinner, had to show this monster off :D

My Wife phoned up one of the local butchers and asked them if they would be able to supply a 20oz T-Bone. The guy wasn't quite sure if he could manage it but low and behold she got the phonecall and went to pick it up.

As soon as she handed me it I could tell it was heavy. Stuck it on my digital scales and it was reading 39oz!!!!! The guy either misheard or miscut as he gave us virtually double what we had asked for.

At this point my eyes lit up and I began to drool a little at the prospect.

Had to use something to show the scale, it was just over 2" thick.
