Damn, wondered why my just kegged Summer Lightning didn't taste like Summer Lightning. Just reviewed the recipe and it was supposed to be 58g Challenger at boil and 10g EKG at 15 mins. Well, idiot here somehow managed to switch them when I put the recipe into Brewsmith. :( Still, didn't taste bad for a 'green' beer as I was kegging it, left it force-carbing for now so we'll see in a week or so. Itching to get another brew going now as I still have a load of kegs to fill, two sacks of M.O. to get through and another two sacks to pick up! :)

So you boiled the EKG and used Challenger at 15?

What volume?

Well, it was 23l basically but I doubled-up on everything for a 10G brew. Yep, the EKG went in at boil (116Gms), the Challenger at 15 mins (20Gms). The fermented wort didn't taste too bad but nothing like Summer Lightning of course. :) I'm sure it'll be fine.

You're right - i'm sure it'll be a stormer! - Funny how the brews you dont mean to brew always turn out the best.

Challenger are commonly used as a late hop :thumb:

Ah that's good then, didn't realise Challenger could be used as a late addition. Got 2 full size, 1 half size kegs and a 2ltr bottle of the stuff to get through so fingers crossed. :)

Yep - I like Challenger - try a plain old Challenger only bitter

95% pale
5% crystal
15 IBU full boil from Challenger
15 IBU from the last 15 mins (loads of hops but go for it)
then
in 25L use 15g challenger at 80c steeped for 20 mins.

Aleman first dared me to get 50% of the IBU from the late additions, of the times I tried it i've been impressed and Challenger seems to work well like this :thumb:

Well strangely enough I'm onto the 2nd keg of this now and it's been fantastic! Crystal clear after the first couple of pints from both kegs, perfectly carbonated and a very nice drink. I've only ever secondaried once and it wasn't very successful so I tend to primary only and shove the fermenter in the fridge for a couple of days prior to kegging with good results.

This being a 10g brew I didn't have that option (it was in one full 12g fermenter) so had to let it clear at room temp before kegging and to my amazement it's cleared perfectly. This has got to be the best brew I have done yet.

I have various opened packets of hops kicking about so I'm going to give my dad a list of what I have, get him to pick three at random and then fudge a brew together from his choice, should be fun. :)

grats on your best ever brew! its always nice to set a new benchmark.

here's hoping that there's many more of them
