I've just been given 5kg of brewing sugar all with a use by date of may 2011.

Wi it be ok?

As long as its bone dry and free of any contaminants, I can't see there been a problem using it. If it was me, I would have used it without any worry.

Yep it's in original packets and been stored in the dark. I agree unless anyone else thinks otherwise?

2011 is nothing, don't worry. there was a post on here a while ago about somebody going through their mum's cupboards and finding a 20 year old tin of malt extract and using it :D

Pure sugar in actual fact is quite sterile and was used for centuries to treat battle wounds as it had anti bacterial properties.

I wouldn't trust it until it was tested properly.

To do this:
1. Brew a 20L batch of bitter.
2. Ferment with a nice flavorful yeast
3. Carbonate and bottle as per usual
4. Ship all 20L to an impartial beer tester. Pm me and I'll send you my address.
