My second extract brew is about 3 weeks in the barrel now.
When I tried it after a couple of days it seemed really good after a bit of a dodgy first attempt.
Now that it's conditioned, it's a beautiful head but the taste doesn't seem quite as palatable.
Is this normal, will it improve, does it ever take a step back in this way, first?
Yours truly
Worried

P.S
I was going to take the plunge into AG at Christmas but I'm a bit disillusioned at the moment and can't even think of that until I produce something I'm satisfied with.

People do seem to say that leaving beer for ages to bottle condition is a good thing. I'm new to this myself though.

I have a friend who brews with Malt Extract and she agrees with me that you can never quite lose the "Extract" taste.
AG is a totally different kettle of fish, I would not shelve your plans because of your Extract experience.

Every upgrade will improve quality. Going ag, treating water, investing in temp control. Enjoy the journey - don't give up! What you probably taste early on is the 'holy crap, i made this' ingredient more than anything. The first pint of anything is always the best :-)

having brewed lots of kits i can promise you sitting on it for 3 months will improve it no end, tho even a month will make a big difference..

i have started to do all-grain, and have brewed one batch that was ready to be drunk within 3 weeks of kegging, i was gobsmacked!! and emptied the keg in 10 days..

It's well worth putting a 'shout' out on the forum to see if there's anyone in your area who's brewing AG. They may let you tag along for a brew day then you can see if you like it before doing it yourself :thumb:

Thanks for those replies...like the idea about tagging along on an AG brew day
