I am thinking of making a large siphoning pipe from 22mm copper. Is this an issue as regards tainting the flavour of the wine? It will only be passing thorough the copper and not in contact with it for long.

My God! What sort of volumes are you working with?

As to the copper, I agree that it probably wouldn't be in contact long enough to make any difference.

Don't take the risk . . . Copper will taint the wine, and wine is more acid than beer so will dissolve more copper while it is in contact . . stick to plastic or stainless for syphoning . . Hop and Grape do a 1/2" Racking tube in stainless steel that will be more than adequate for your needs.

I am using 200 litre plastic barrels for the wine. I did it last year and the result is good.
