I want to make a first AG brew of Ringwood Old Thumper. Does anyone know what commerical yeast that is used and being somewhat of a novice, explain how i get hold of some, the correct amount for a 19 ltr brew and...lastly  How do i keep some for future brews. I have wheeler's book, but it doesn't go much into the actual method of keeping yeasties.

Many Thanks in advance,
C

Hi
I wouldn't read to much into so called recipes, you'll end up disappointed by most.
Keep an open mind when you taste it and adjust future brews to taste or design your own. :thumb:

I went to ringwood with a plastic container and they filled it up for me, that was a couple of years ago on the way back from camping in new forest. Great yeast though it needs rousing every morning and evening for a couple of days

I have heard discussion on this topic that the ringwood yeast you can buy, Wyeast 1187 is not quite as good as the brewery yeast but still good.

This yeast needs a long rest at the end of fermentation to soak up the diacetyl, unless you are a butterscotch fan.

Thanks all...

I'm heading home (Poole) to see the kids soon, so if they are open i might pop in and purchase a firkin or two and plead for some yeasties.
