Dodgy phone call/Identity fraud

PayPal scams are rife at the moment.

I had "Kevin" on earlier about my computer virus...

I had a lady who sounded Indian to me give me that one. I played along navigated to the folder and told her there was no files in there...

Anyways I ask her if she is Muslim or Hindu. She replies she is a Christian lady. So I say thats very interesting "Tell me how does scamming innocent people out of their hard earned money sit with you religious believes?" She hung up on me instantly.

I had one of these bogus NI calls yesterday and after letting it get up to the stage when a conversation might have started it went dead. Just out of curiosity I immediately phoned the number back and disturbed a guy who sounded a bit sleepy and from his accent probably in the south of England who clearly had no involvement in any of it. These scammers seem to have mastered the art of hijacking mobile numbers of other people which is very worrying.

One also wonders about the kind of people who come up with these things. Is there an evil think tank out there somewhere, which makes money with thinking out such things and selling to fraudsters?

I get the IRS call a lot. People with Indian accents calling and telling me they will call the cops if I don’t transfer them some amount of money, immediately.
I treat them like my own personal sex line. The louder they threaten, the more I tell them I’m turned on....

In work the fella I work with used to get calls...asking for money,asking where he was...I used to say he'd emigrated to Australia...they got a bit upset!

I had the NI one yesterday, I pressed 1 and decided to play along for a bit. Got through to 'Kevin' who started burbling on about my NI number being compromised. I said that was interesting and did he realise that he had come through to a number in the Intelligence Services. It all went very quiet. I mentioned that we had traced the number and that they could expect a visit from a 'wet' operative. Click brrr.

Demand that they threaten you in a thick Russian accent or you will speak to their manager.

I either give them a tirade of abuse or say "Your call is important to me" and leave the phone connected until I remember to hang up (my memory isn't what it used to be and it's sometimes hours later when I remember)
