I've found this writeup about a French beer that I love.. "Pelforth"

Pelforth, an ale, was first brewed in 1935 using two different types of malt and English yeast. The name came from "Pel" for pelican, "forte" for strong, because it contains a lot of malt (43 kg/hL), and the h added to give it an English feel.

Now what I want to know is....it states...43kg (that's the easy bit)...per hL....is this hectoliter??
if so that would be 43kg/22 gallons.....do I have it right??? or am I way off track :wha:

A hL is a hectoliter = 100ltr so that into gallons is 21.99 gallon

but 43kg div 4 = 10.75kg per 25ltr brew
Which comes out @ 1.100 which sounds high!!But you need to scale it down from those figures as there mash eff's are different to ours.

So I still get around 9 kg per 23ltr brew and 1.090 and 8% abv??

Does that sound right?

Ok I have found the beer should be around 6% so I have my scaling all wrong. :wha:

Right 43kg in 100ltr brewlength = 50% efficiency to give 6% abv

So scaled down to 23.5 ltr and 75% efficiency = 6.5kg of grains giving 6.2% abv

Does that sound right Oh wise Aleman or Jamesb??

Right I found this on an offical site...

Alcohol Content 6.5 % Bitterness 21. EBU
Gravity 16.7 °P Colour 70.0 EBC

I'm not giving up on this one untill I've cracked it.. :thumb:
