On a visit to my local HB shop today I was given a tub of DLS, the sell buy date has expired, but to be honest I'm not sure if it will benefit my brews. At the moment I use CRS and gypsum and achieve the PH I need. There is no indication on the tub whats in it, none of the calculators mention it and the brewpaks website seems a bit vague about its use, I take it its to replace gypsum. Any one use it, is it more benifical than gypsum.

DLS is a combination of gypsum and calcium chloride . . . it's a sort of 'one size fits all' approach to water treatment . . . . unfortunately when you look at the murphys site you also need to add other things as well.

I dislike using it as the sulphate to chloride ratio is fixed . . .plus if I didn't want to add sulphate (as I don't in pilsners) I would have to have calcium chloride in stock anyway . . .and If I wanted a higher sulphate:chloride ration for my pale ales I'd need gypsum . . . :hmm: . . . make up my own DLS as I have both in the brewery . . . . :thumb: seems like a good idea
