our 18 month old cat has seemingly done a runner, kids and wife are beside themselves and I've been out looking for the last 2 days now, but no sign. In fact kids and wife out now putting up missing notices on lamposts.
We've already checked with neighbours for sheds/garages etc but so far no joy.
Its been 2 days now and we know the cat was startled at the time as it seemed to get itself tangled in a shopping bag before bolting for the flap and was not seen again.
The concern is that it's so cold and icy, and not least having walked the block I've seen no other cats, but seen the local fox doing his rounds, hopefully he's not feasted on her.
We have even pushed her sister out of the front door in a hope to encourage her back, but she just pootles round the side of the house and comes back in again, seems far too cold for her.
Anyone had a similar experience with a missing cat, we've prepared the kids for the worst, but hoping for the best
thanks

our old cat use to go missing for a week at a time....never did find out where she went...we think she'd found a holiday home with free food.
Did it for several years..

Hope yours returns, but its a hard world out there.

I wouldn't worry too much at this early stage. One of our cats went missing for 9 days once and we did the same, posters on lamp posts, leaflets through doors, phoning the RSPCA etc. We even thought he might have jumped in the back of a delivery van or something like that, and he just turned back up one evening. According to the RSPCA when we phoned them it is quite common for cats to disappear for extended periods, and as for the weather I wouldn't worry too much as they will always find somewhere warm and dry to hide.

We have been adopted by a cat . . . used to play with ours when they were both kittens . . .just turned up one day and said . . . I am living with you now . . .Get used to it!! . . .Does go back to original owners as well though

Have you tried calling around the local vets?

Cats are pretty tough. Even if it disappears for good theres a fair chance its found itself some other humans to own. Our cat owned my grandad and when grandad died, the cat inherited us.

yes, think we'll try the local vet and pet shop, she is microchipped and has a collar, so thats about as much as we can do, thanks chaps

You have been doing all the right things, and, very importantly, your cat is microchipped.Cats are very good at surviving, a few months back a cat from a nearby village got in the back of a delivery van and jumped out and vanished in the town where I live. Posters were set up,notices in the vets and the local newspaper brought no response, but a month or so later the cat was reunited with her owners, she had "adopted" a kindly soul who thought she was a stray and had been feeding her. The worse part is not knowing, many years ago we lost a cat in very similar circumstances and I know how hard it is.

I hope your cat turns up soon. mine went missing for a couple of weeks just before Christmas. We found that she had taken to living under a bush near the supermarket. We have a friend that works at the Cat's Protection so we borrowed a cat trap and caught her, she hasn't wanted to leave the house since. We have got a locator on all 5 of our cats now in case they decide to go missing again. I can now track where my cats are (normally in the near by woods half way up a tree)

your wife and you have done the right thing by putting up posters.your cat could have been picked up or gone to someone who is feeding it.Try local rescue centres keep us posted for any updates :thumb:

Really hope that you find the cat. The below websites may be of some help to you

Not a fat lot of use (and could end up getting very expensive) if the buggers keep losing their collars

One of ours tended to lose his collar around every 3 months on average. That was bad enough with the price of magnetic cat flap ‘keys’. We had quite a surprise at how far he wandered when someone quite a distance away found one and phoned us.

If we went on holiday, he would too, even though we had neighbours calling in to feed them. He would saunter in a week or so after our return. We gradually learned that he had a choice of alternative accommodation, ranging from 2 doors away to 2 streets away.

Collar problem solved now, we've got a cat flap which reads microchips.

I hope yours turns up safe and well Fraz, I assume this is a first time and out of character?

We have 5 cats and all but 1 tend to stay in the vicinity, but theres a lot of place to hide on our garden, plus i have knocked up a few cat huts for them, with bedding in, the other 1 cat is a tom, and he used to go missing for a week, even though he was spaded, but lately, he's stopping at home, must be the opnen fire thats done the trick!

You can always locate their collars

remember to check sites like gumtree and preloved and put out stuff on local facebook pages too! people are usually happy to share. :thumb:

thanks for all the comments guys, you'll all be pleased to learn of 'The Return Of The Queen', sitting as large as life on the table this morning, looking very sheepish, not too hungry and seemingly unscathed. No idea where she'd been and the neighbours dont either.
Was becoming more convinced the fox had had her, as each time I went out looking there was no wildlife insight apart from him.
So kids and wife happy, and dont mind admitting I'm releived too, tho it seems business as usual cat curled up under the radiator, taking not a blind bit of notice of anyone.
thanks again

Cats do that.

ungrateful little...... :thumb:

Few! Glad you have her back.

Our cat went missing for 9 days, totally out of character, when she came back she had massive internal bleeding, nerve damage etc.

Vet thinks that she was hit by a car then she ran off on adrenalin (sp?)to hide, when she recovered a bit of strength she made it home. Unfortunatly she was PTS.

Our other one is locked in overnight now with a litter tray. she doesn't use it but doesn't care about being forced to stay in the warm either.
