Just found this barrel in the shed. Must be a year or more since I used it and it appears I never cleaned it out properly before I slung it in there.

Question is - will I get it clean enough and sanitary enough to put beer in? I've ruined a couple of batches in the past using bottles that have not been spotless and I am paranoid about ruining another. Am I better just to get a new keg??

Dodgy photo below taken down the neck looking to the bottom.

Cool. Thanks. Oxy stuff as in that goes in the washing machine???

Yes the stain remover stuff. Make sure you don't use the scented stuff though   . Lidl & Aldi do cheap versions of the stuff that I find work just as well as the more expensive branded stuff :thumb:

Thats why they made cider barrels brown.....so you couldnt see the bits like that .Honestly though ,thats not so bad ,really .It'll shift OK .

Well what can I say - a night soaked in Oxi-Clean and it's spotless!!! LIke new! :thumb:
And smells like freshly laundered bedsheets :wha:

Thoroughly rinsed and then sloshed out with star-san ready for some beer today.

My two batches of 'Woodstock Pale Ale' are ready to go in - one has the off flavours from what I think was a bad smack pack. The other has been in the primary for 9 days but has quite a bit of sediment so I am keen to move it.. I've only one barrel at the moment (until the wife buys me a corny for xmas) so I have to choose which goes in.

Maybe the first batch goes in the barrell and the 2nd goes into the secondary. :? :wha:

You got to watch out for those bad packs of smack.....

 ...sorry...I'll get me coat......

PS...but Im glad to hear you are oxy-clean now ;)
