I bought a load of crates with bottles from Facebook Marketplace.
The bottles hadn’t been rinsed before they were put back in the crate and it looks like they’ve sat around for 12 months or more.
The slightly scary black gunge at the bottom of the bottles does not want to shift.
I’ve soaked the bottles, used a bottle brush (albeit quite a soft one) and even had a test run through the dishwasher but some of the bottles (not all) refuse to let the gunge go!

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions that may help?
Thanks in advance.

Drop some uncooked rice in there with a little soap and water, then shake like a madman, should clear it by acting like a scourer

I would suggest soaking with VWP and hot water for a good while, it is designed for cleaning in place where you cannot reach like brewery plant and pies etc. I use it and you can see it lifting the muck off, then use a bottle brush on it and do it again if necessary

I've used a pressure washer on filthy bottles. Stand them in a crate and give each bottle a good blast.
