Hello

Has anyone used this one? Maybe someone can suggest an alternative thermometer which can be submerged in liquid?

Although it doesn't look very well built, but at least it's waterproof. Anyway I was thinking it would be nice to leave it in the mash tun for all the mash period so i wouldn't need to open the lid every time.

My two previous thermometers stopped working after just 2 months, so I am hesitant to buy more every month or so. With the second one I was so smart to measure water temp in my hlt with digital oven thermometer. I don't know why i was convinced that all the probes are waterproof but it turns out it can't even be cleaned with water. :electric:

Thanks

you need a thermowell in the mash tun if you want to constantly measure temp. the hot dampness will eventually kill any thermometer left in there.

Your linked one is expensive !
try one by ETI in e bay......around £10

Why do you want to measure the mash tun temp?

I measure at the start and end so I know how much heat I lost. I wouldn't alter mid mash so I don't monitor it.

I'm with Joe here, get it to temperature, wrap it up and leave alone. Always lose less than 1 degree over a 90 min mash.

Agreed, get a well insulated tun and dont fiddle about. You lose a bit every time you lift the lid.
