As im not concerned with the alcohol strength of my beer, only the taste and looks, i have stopped checking og and final sg, and only check the sg when i think its time to bottle ( 7 or 10 days, bit longer for cold weather).
I go by smell, taste and look, of the taster glass.

Other than adding more sugar to the kilo added i dont see what else i can do, so why bother.

as long as it tastes nice. :drink:

am i on my own?

Almost. I check the SG to make sure it's in the right ballpark - I had a kit recently came out at 1030 when I tried different malt extract, so had to add more sugar to get to 1040ish.
I then check when fermentation dies down to make sure it hasn't stuck.
That's it :thumb:
