Can anyone recommend a really nice lager kit? I would like to make a Belgium type lager. Or is this a stupid question? :thumb:

The Coopers European is the nicest I've done so far. I tried the Cordon Brew but it tastes a little funny, seems abit sweet so it could be that the secondary fermention hasnt worked properly.

I've got a Coopers Canadian thats almost ready now which I brewed with honey and sugar, really looking forward to trying it

Coopers eh? Looks the part for sure. Anyone know wher this can be purchased? I live in East Lancs. Cheers

u will get coopers everywhere to be honest, if you have a wilkinsons nearby they usually stock them, some of the bigger tescos do brewing stuff and they may have them, i personally always use http://www.home-brew-online.com for most of my brewing stuff, you can buy as much as u want and delivery is still capped at £5.95 for everything.
they have loads of coopers kits. ive tried alot of the coopers kit and they are not bad, ive tried a 'tom caxton' lager and real ale kit and they are ok aswell

Lochgoilhead eh?? Must be a place that gets tv reception with the look of the television sets hanging from the walls?? We go up to Scotland around the Glenshee/Blairgowrie area. As a countryman I love walking and fishing the areas wild places. last time I was up I bumped into Prince Charles on a shoot! He had about 6 black Range Rovers following him up into the glen. We stay in a cottage with no tv reception log fire, the best malt, and the days memories for company. Each to there own I guess.

If you like Belgian what about some of these Brewferm kits:

http://www.brew-it-yourself.co.uk/shop/ ... cts_id=340

Any comments I've read on any of their kits are good and I'm going to try one myself. They cost more to brew per pint - but it's strong beer and like any of the good belgian stuff you savour it ;)

Also in general coopers are kits are good - canadian blonde is a great crowd pleaser.

you could try a Design a Brew from Hamstead brew centre http://www.hamstead-brewing-centre.co.uk/itmidx19.htm

I tried their recipe for Belgium Bimbo Blonde, which turned out really good, just like Leffe, came out at ABV 5%

LME Base 2 x 2
Cara malt x 3
Amber malt x 1
Challenger hops x 1
Syrian Goldings hops x 1
750g glucose
250ml light liquid honey
Design a Brew Yeast

if you email them they will send you a list of recipes, it's quality stuff. Even though I am now doing AG, I'll definitely do another one of these. It's a bit more expensive than other kits, but it will give you a great beer.

Good luck
